Bielle, adventurers or no, are defensive and frequently crude.

Distant descendants of fairies, pixies and such, the bielle have grown fed up with being perceived as lightweight insects in skirts. The foot tall winged sprites are vicious, offensive, and remarkably strong for their size, ordinarily every bit as strong as a human.

Stats: Luck +2, Mana +3, Quickness +1, Reflex +1, Will +2, Charisma -4, Knowledge -2, Intelligence -1, Awareness -2, Toughness -1. Bielle are quick and highly magical, but they are also stubborn, cocky, and very hard to get close to.

Anatomy: bielle resemble humans, though with legs at about half proportional length. Most bielle are a foot tall or slightly more, but it is important to note that bielle are as strong as a human. They can lift several times their own bodyweight with ease, and are more likely to be inhibited by size or grip than actual weight when lifting something. Some theorize that this is because they are not small, just "condensed" humans, leaving all the strength concentrated in one smaller spot. The truth is that they have the magical heritage of fairies, giving them strength and hardiness beyond what could be physically possible. Similarly, they possess insectoid wings that can beat rapidly and never tire, attributed to the same source. They move remarkably quickly, though their size and legs make them awkward to run. While they can vary like humanoids, bielle have largely pale complexions.

Genders: both sexes of bielle essentially have the same goal in their lives (to come across as tough or threatening), each gender mimics the traits of humans looking to achieve the same thing. Males tend towards exposed muscle, plain, rough clothes, and tattoos, often particularly crude or vulgar ones. Females tend towards anti-feminine accessories; multiple piercing, dying hair unnatural colors, elaborate and visible tattoos, and either long pants or very short skirts. Male bielle tend to have little interest in sex ordinarily, with no real urge to impress female more than any other race. Females occasionally will take males by force, but this is uncommon itself. Breeding occurs every few years at what is called Fairy Circle, where all bielle are drawn to one location. The males will then compete in various tests of manliness for breeding rights. Females tend to fight far less on the matters, but if they disapprove of the mate who has earned them, they can outfight him themselves. This often works in favor of the female, since the male is normally tired from their last test, but failure otherwise ends in rape. One memorable Fairy Circle resulted in a skipped generation of bielle, as a Holly Wolfsbane best every single suitable male present.

Male bielle are gruff and bold, while females tend to be simply rude and detached.

Youth: bielle break apart after their breeding, so children rarely know their fathers. They are said to know their father on sight instinctively, and may sometimes be raised by an available male, often by force of the mother. Bielle are born and bred like humans, but it has been noted that twins are far more likely to occur (roughly 20% of all births). Mother bielle must work to care for the child, instinctively finding some sense of maternity. The bielle child's luck is tested here, as they have to learn to take care of themselves before this wears off (normally a year at most). Then the rebellious nature of the bielle kicks in, and the female abandons the baby in the nearest place they deem relatively safe. Bielle do not die as often as suspected at this point, building up their sense of ferocity quickly, but it does happen to a percentage, compensated by the mass breeding of Fairy Circle. A bielle is fully grown after 4-8 years.

Diet: bielle are smaller than most races, and so require far less food. A fish or an apple or two will often fill them up, so they tend towards eating vegetables and fruit because they would rarely eat a full animal. This also proves useful in social markets, as especially tiny dishes are made to suit bielle. While more elaborate things can be pricey, thimbles of beer and quarters of apples make for cheap eating.

Names and Language: bielle have varying names. Their past nature has been taken into account to create names from combinations of nouns. They will often pick their own name when they grow older, and so the names often imply a far larger creature than they actually are. Female names tend to have nature-based first names, and often have poisonous implications. These give the names a dwarfish tone. Some include Sledge Bullrock, Brock Groinshot, and Ivy Bitterroot.

Territory: bielle have almost no concentrated civilization at all. Their Fairy Circle is always held in a different area, but people know to get out of the way wherever it may be. Bielle also rarely ever settle down, even in old age. They also have little interest in houses, so they can often improvise housing instead in smaller objects.

Psychology: bielle are well aware of their heritage among pixies, fairies, sprites, brownies, and so on. This creates a sense of insecurity, furthered by the idea that they are a foot tall. They naturally wish to compensate, doing almost anything to prove their hardiness and dangerous nature. It is actually true that they are capable of equality among humans physically, giving them even more reason to prove themselves. They become aggressive or cold, copying the actions of seedy and rough characters theyve encountered over time.

Technology: bielle very rarely put much stock into technology, between their magical heritage and their size disadvantage. Some do find steady positions in invention for their ability to fit in smaller places than others.

Politics/Law: bielle, in their all-encompassing urge to prove themselves, have little regard for laws of their own or others. Often, special prisons must be improvised for especially rowdy bielle. With no law or leaders, the bielle only have social stigma to go by, which only really frowns upon the especially weak or those who lack over the top toughness.

Their size makes bielle no less powerful as warriors

Religion: bielle rarely see any use in religion, even if they are able to find easy favor among certain gods. Morlai smiles upon their heritage as nature-loving magic-users, and some of the elemental gods are sometimes sought for power. Shass, the god of luck, has a particular fondness for them as well.

Entertainment: bielle keep their traditional sense of proving one's self by keeping themselves amused in whatever thrilling or delinquent activities they may find. They have a common habit of picking fights with animals like cats or crows, only to intentionally startle the creatures with their strength. Similar tests are also engaged in with other races, mostly armwrestling, brawls, drinking and so forth. If it's not in a coliseum, street, or bar, bielle rarely have interest in it. Females often take interest in less direct violence and destruction. They have been noted to have a fondness for vandalism, tests over laxness in loitering, or insult contests, which can go on for days. This is deemed to be an adaptation of their kind's ancient hobby of riddles. It is theorized that every perceivable riddle has been concocted by bielle already, and so they are natural experts at them and have very little interest in them.

Interspecies Relations: bielle cannot crossbreed because of size issues, though magical means to this may be possible. Many species see bielle as pests, or more accurately, as hazards. Bielle are infamous scrappers to anyone who knows anything about them. This is sometimes treated as tediously repetitive by other species. Many a mysteriously flung beer bottles are attributed to them. Creatures like gokr and constructs, who are more resistant to injury, find them to be curious and amusing beings, or at least far more tolerant of them.

Warfare: having no specific culture, bielle are difficult to rile or assault as a whole. However, bielle nature has encouraged them to seek frequent work as mercenaries during wartime. Even though they need less funds for their size, they can make more than normal humans would at war. As strong as humans, magically resistant, and smaller targets, they make fierce warriors. A unit of bielle assaulting a foe like an armed swarm is a scene to believe.
